What the resort could control and did was wonderful. The casino was great and the surrounding scenery would have been beautiful if the weather cooperated, but that is not the resorts fault of course. I was looking forward to canoeing on the lake and taking a good hike, but the weather put a damper on that. It was like a scene out of the Hound of the Baskervilles.

Only thing missing was the eerie call of a loon from the lake, but I guess Maryland is too far south for loons. I could barely see the opposite shore of the lake from my lake front room and the mountain tops were completely obliterated.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Rocky Gap Casino Resort for two days in August of 2015. The Signatures sports bar was okay for lunch, they do have a good selection of beers on tap. The service is so very slow that it would have been another 30 minutes, minimum, to get one meal-so we would have been eating at separate times. We spoke to the manager of the dining room and it was taken off of our check, but dinner was ruined. The filet was 1/4 inch thick (a new one for me) and was tough and tasted old-and I ordered it medium. The sides that were delivered were cold (both the vegetables and starch) and the veggies (assorted squash) were still hard even after being 'sautéed.' I have to be honest, for crab cakes that were voted 'best in MD' I was disappointed. We at ate at LBs for dinner and now that I know what the food quality is like, I understand why most people were having sandwiches, burgers and salads, rather than the fine dining options. There are a few places on the property and, as long as your tastes run no further than burgers or a pizza, you are in luck. I broke even :) Restaurants.this is the bad news. I'm not much of a gambler, but played a little black jack, roulette, and nickel slots. Casino is good and the table minimums, for weekend nights, were very good. The rooms were very clean and had a mini-fridge which was helpful for storing some drinks and bottled water. Front desk staff is very helpful and check-in was hassle free and easy. Everything is well-maintained and very clean. The property is in a gorgeous location and reminds me a lot of resorts in the Adirondacks. Rocky Gap is located a few miles from Cumberland and we will make the drive for dinner in the future. This was a last minute getaway for us and we would absolutely go back, but with a few caveats: Dinner off of the resort property would be among those.
